Electrical CAD Designer (Onsite) | 1-Year Contract | Berkeley, CA | $73/hour
We are seeking an experienced Electrical CAD Designer to support the Advanced Light Source Upgrade (ALS-U) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In this role, you'll develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and production-ready documentation for complex scientific equipment and infrastructure while partnering with multidisciplinary engineering teams from design through implementation.
This position is a strong fit for someone with hands-on experience creating manufacturing-ready electrical documentation in a complex engineering environment and who enjoys turning engineering concepts into detailed, buildable designs.

Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain electrical models, wiring diagrams, schematics, and panel layouts using project-approved CAD software.
- Revise designs based on engineering feedback, design reviews, and approved engineering changes.
- Generate bills of materials (BOMs), wire and cable schedules, and supporting manufacturing documentation.
- Prepare documentation for fabrication, assembly, installation, and testing activities.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and technical stakeholders to ensure designs meet project requirements.
- Participate in design reviews and coordination meetings.
- Maintain organized, revision-controlled engineering documentation within Windchill or other designated systems.
- Ensure work complies with applicable engineering standards, codes, and quality requirements.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience producing electrical CAD designs.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Electrical, KiCad, or similar electrical CAD software.
- Experience developing manufacturing-ready electrical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and cable schedules.
- Experience working with PLM or PDM systems and maintaining revision-controlled engineering documentation.
- Working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, electrical components, schematic development, and wiring practices.
- Familiarity with applicable industry standards and codes related to electrical design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting DOE national laboratories, research facilities, particle accelerators, semiconductor, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, or other complex engineering environments.
- Experience using Autodesk Inventor for 3D electrical or electromechanical design.
- Experience integrating electrical and mechanical CAD models.
- Experience using Windchill for engineering document and configuration management.
- Experience supporting fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, or commissioning of engineered systems.
