Job Description

Sales Engineer (San Rafael, CA)

Nuclear Detection & Scientific Instrumentation

Perfect Timing is excited to present a new opportunity with an innovative Marin County technology company specializing in scientific instrumentation, radiation detection, and advanced measurement systems.

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented, technically curious professional who enjoys product support, customer interaction, project coordination, and working with cutting-edge technology. The ideal candidate is organized, technology-savvy, comfortable using AI tools, and interested in building a long-term career in a growing technical environment.

Position Overview

The Sales Engineer will support a product line focused on radiation detection, spectroscopy instrumentation, scientific measurement systems, and custom technical solutions serving government, academic, research, defense, and industrial customers.

Working closely with product management, engineering, support, and sales teams, this individual will assist with quoting, documentation, customer support, project tracking, CRM management, and technical content development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support budgetary and formal quoting for custom detector assemblies.
  • Pull comparable past builds, assemble configuration and material history, and help build quote packages customers can budget against with confidence.
  • Maintain detector drawing and configuration libraries.
  • Match incoming customer requirements to the closest existing build so solutions can be quoted from history instead of from scratch.
  • Track open orders against promised ship dates and prepare agendas and follow-up notes for recurring customer and supplier meetings.
  • Support incoming inspection and functional checks on detectors and spectroscopy instruments and document results.
  • Build and maintain customer account and program maps within CRM systems.
  • Support technical inquiries from customers and sales representatives.
  • Route complex technical questions to engineering with the proper context already assembled.
  • Understand customer needs and help develop solutions with engineers across detector hardware and software platforms.
  • Prepare AI-assisted proposals, application notes, comparison tables, and other customer-facing materials.
  • Support regional representatives through order completion.
  • Help develop the company's presence as a thought leader and solution provider across government, academia, and private industry.
  • Support competitive analysis, product variation documentation, version control, webinars, and regional events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent preferred. We will consider an electronics technician certificate or relevant hands-on experience.
  • Coursework or lab time in radiation detection is a strong plus: gamma spectroscopy, multichannel analyzers, photomultiplier and SiPM readout, or scintillator materials such as NaI(Tl), LaBr3, CeBr3, LYSO, CLLBC, and GAGG.
  • Comfort with spreadsheets and data. You will be reconciling quotes, purchase orders, and delivery dates across several systems, and small errors matter.
  • Able to correspond well on phone, email, or in person with customers, engineers, and supply chain partners.
  • Travel required.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects in a team environment as well as independently, and to interact effectively with a positive attitude (excellent verbal and written communication skills).
  • Strong working AI familiarity. Please send an example of something you built with it.
  • U.S. Citizen preferred.
  • Local Bay Area candidates preferred.
