Construction Safety Professional - 1-Year Contract - Onsite, Berkeley, CA - $90/hour

Perfect Timing Personnel is recruiting for a Safety Professional to support the Advanced Light Source Upgrade (ALS-U) Project at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. This role will be embedded within the ALS-U safety organization and will provide safety oversight, hazard analysis, work planning support, regulatory compliance assistance, and field safety support for a major scientific construction and infrastructure project.

The selected candidate will work closely with project management, engineering, construction, environmental health and safety teams, and subcontractors to help ensure safe execution of project activities throughout design, installation, testing, commissioning, and readiness phases.

Assignment Details
 
  • Location: Onsite, Berkeley, CA
  • Schedule: Full-time; Monday-Friday, standard business hours
  • Duration: October 2026 through September 2027, with possible extension
  • Background Check: Criminal background check required prior to hire
  • Pay Rate: $90/hour

Key Responsibilities
 
  • Support safety programs for a large scientific construction and infrastructure project
  • Conduct hazard assessments and develop appropriate controls and mitigation strategies
  • Review and maintain JHAs, AHDs, work packages, and other safety documentation
  • Perform field observations, inspections, and safety walkthroughs
  • Support construction, installation, testing, and commissioning activities
  • Participate in design reviews, readiness reviews, and project planning meetings
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, laboratory, and project safety requirements
  • Collaborate with engineering, EH&S, Radiation Protection, contractors, and project teams

Required Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field; or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of safety experience supporting construction, industrial, engineering, or technical operations
  • Experience performing hazard assessments and safety inspections
  • Experience developing or reviewing JHAs, safety plans, work packages, and related documentation
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills

Preferred Qualifications
 
  • Experience supporting DOE, national laboratory, semiconductor, utility, nuclear, accelerator, or similar highly regulated environments
  • CSP, ASP, CHST, CIH, or related certification
  • Experience on large capital construction or infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with radiological, electrical, hazardous materials, lifting and rigging, confined space, and fall protection hazards
